Most people go out of their way to buy a home, but in this quest is quite possible to yourself in a position where the costs of running the hose are getting on top of you, but when this is realised it is normally too late and there is not much that can be done about it.

But with some forward planning it is quite possible to ensure that you never get into this situation, and therefore make the home owning experience a much enjoyable way of living and investing in your home.

So what can be done to ease the pressure from your shoulders?

Re-mortgage when it makes financial sense
Review your insurance policies
Learn to DIY
Use less energy
Share expensive items with your neighbours

Of course there may always be the time where there is nothing that can be done, in that case it is best just to sit tight and ride it out. But by making the most of what you have, you would have improved your chances and made your life easier.
