Work Begins on Green City

Work has begun on the worlds first zero carbon and zero waste city, which is going to be built in Abu Dhabi. There has been much speculation as to the reasoning about the new city which is going to be called Masdar City, firstly Abu Dhabi has the worst record in the world for the largest carbon footprints per capita, secondly there are fears that because of the location of the new city just outside of Abu Dhabi City will become a haven of the rich, leaving the older city for everyone else and finally there is the cost, it is estimated that there will be a final price of nearly £12 billion for the development.

On the plus sides the city itself will be producing its own solar power and this will even power a special travel pod system, this would be similar to those planned at Heathrow, where passengers enter a small unmanned pod which travels along a specified route.

Abu Dhabi has stated that they are committed to creating green technology and have put in place a £15 billion five year project to look into sustainable energies.
